Overview

Provides the full range of distributive, clinical, consultative, research, investigational, and/or administrative pharmaceutical services. Incumbents select, compound, manufacture, purchase, dispense, and/or preserve drugs, medicines, and other therapeutic agents; serve as a member and consultant on treatment or diagnostic teams; disseminates drug information to hospital staff and interested community groups; may participate in hospital research projects or perform pharmaceutical research.

What You Will Do

Clinical Pharmacy: Applies knowledge of solubility, stability, usages, and administration of drugs; evaluates dosages and possible reactions; anticipates and prevents undesirable chemical reactions.

Pharmacy operations: Applies knowledge of physical and chemical properties for computing dosages, weighing, measuring, and compounding.

Prescribing interpretation: Interprets prescriptions and dispenses; communicates synergistic/antagonistic/cumulative effects and potential overdoses or incompatibilities to physicians.

Drug knowledge: Identifies differences between drugs related to therapeutic efficacy.

Professional development: Maintains awareness of new developments in the drug field and emerging pharmacy practice patterns.

Documentation: Maintains records, documents patient data, prepares written and oral reports concerning patient care.

Teaching: May contribute to accredited teaching programs and training courses.

Drug storage: Specifies proper storage and preservation of therapeutic agents per USP and NF standards.

Investigational Drug Service: Supports coordination of pharmacy services related to research, participates in sponsor site qualification and initiation visits, supports IRB-approved trials, provides guidance to pharmacy technicians, attends meetings for drug protocol input, coordinates drug therapy with study teams, sponsors, and nursing, and participates in regulatory audits as needed.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

One (1) year if completed a PGY1 residency.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.

Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.

Knowledge of the influence of patient age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods, and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition.

Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, disease states, and related terminology.

Knowledge of handling and storing pharmaceutical supplies.

Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice.

Knowledge of prescription and non-prescription drugs and their indications, efficacy, dosage, mechanisms of action, potential side effects.

Licenses and Certifications

CA Board of Pharmacy License - Registered Pharmacist

BLS - Basic Life Support required within 30 days

ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 30 days

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $116.33 per hour. The final salary will be set based on a variety of factors including internal equity, experience, education, and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
