Overview
The Water Superintendent at Town of Purcellville leads and supervises the water treatment plant and distribution system, directing operations, maintenance, and related activities under the Director of Public Works. Divisional supervision is exercised over all personnel within the division. Responsibilities
Directs and supervises all water plant functions and personnel; organizes and directs all operations and maintenance activities; oversees equipment maintenance and monitors plant performance to meet water quality standards; ensures work is completed safely, timely, and efficiently in accordance with procedures, rules, regulations, and Federal, State, and local laws. Recruits and selects department personnel; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects staff; evaluates performance; develops staff schedules; manages disciplinary actions; sets and achieves high performance objectives; supervises daily operations. Performs regular inspections of the plant and collects data; prepares daily and monthly reports on water quality and equipment conditions; evaluates plant operations for efficiency and compliance; enforces safety policies. Develops and submits the department budget and monitors it upon approval; assists in Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. Executes other job duties as necessary. Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED. Extensive experience in the water treatment plant, projects and operations of a water facility. Considerable management and supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements
Possession of Class I Waterworks Operator license in the Commonwealth of Virginia upon hire. Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position. Valid driver\'s license Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of the theory and processes of operating a modern water treatment facility, equipment, and materials; knowledge of hydraulic, chemical, and mechanical principles; knowledge of safety precautions; ability to operate and maintain plant equipment; ability to plan, budget, supervise, and communicate effectively; ability to analyze and improve plant operations; ability to lead and motivate staff; ability to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders. Physical Requirements
Frequent exertion; ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally; ability to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms; peripheral vision; vocal and hearing capabilities; ability to use measuring devices and operate vehicles or equipment; exposure to wet, humid conditions, moving parts, extreme temperatures, fumes, and outdoor conditions as applicable.
