Overview
Campus Safety and Security Officer - Technician II. This full-time position is located in the Security Department at Colorado Community College System - Lowry Campus. The standard work schedule is Wednesday through Saturday, 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., but shifts may alternate and holidays may be required. Successful candidates must be able to follow verbal communications, read and comprehend written directions, and interpret policies and memos. The position requires the ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. constantly to move objects, with related physical activities such as climbing, crouching, reaching, and other movements. Personal protective equipment and standardized uniforms are worn intrinsic to the role.
Responsibilities
Patrol campus and College buildings/Facilities on foot or by other means; perform stationary security post duties as assigned.
Respond to calls for service via radio, telephone, or supervisory directions; notify security management of security breaches or risks; coordinate with local police as appropriate.
Provide safety escorts for members of the campus community; check areas for unauthorized personnel; prevent vandalism and disturbances; inspect doors, windows, and entries for safety.
Respond to alarms and assist fire and police departments; provide customer service by delivering information and services with a positive attitude.
Support investigations and reporting: respond to emergencies, conduct initial investigations, write reports, maintain logs, and document campus incidents; coordinate with law enforcement as needed.
Enforce College rules and regulations; manage traffic on campus properties; issue tickets and trespass notices when appropriate; participate in crowd control as needed.
Assist with emergency responses: evacuations, first aid/CPR/AED, and timely warnings or emergency notifications during incidents; manage emergencies until outside agencies arrive.
Maintain equipment and proficiency with safety systems and tools; complete and maintain required certifications.
Operate as a Campus Security Authority and report crimes posing an ongoing threat to the community.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in security, campus safety, or law enforcement as the primary function of the job (part-time experience prorated).
Education: College, university, or accredited program in Law Enforcement or related field may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Provide transcripts as required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license; must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire if not already certified; must pass post-offer background check, physical, agility, and drug test; must be 21 years of age.
Physical and sensory requirements: ability to perform required exertions and frequent or constant motions (holding, reaching, lifting, bending, standing, etc.).
Training: able to be trained and certified in required equipment (e.g., baton, handcuffs, pepper spray) within six months; otherwise position may be downgraded to Technician I.
Background and disclosures: felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude may disqualify; provide disposition of charges if applicable.
