Location: 7 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH
Base Pay Range $22.50/hr – $38.85/hr (depending on grade)
Pay by Grade
Case I: $22.50 – $30.02/hr
Case II: $25.40 – $34.14/hr
Case III: $28.74 – $38.85/hr
SUMMARY
Civil Engineer I : Basic engineering duties for construction projects.
Civil Engineer II : Engineering duties and/or Contract Administrator on basic construction projects.
Civil Engineer III : Complex engineering duties and/or Contract Administrator on moderately complex projects.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS Each additional year of approved formal education may substitute for one year of required work experience and vice versa.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Civil Engineer I
Education : Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution; or Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology with two (2) years of post‑graduate engineering experience comparable to an Engineering Technician.
Experience : None required for Bachelor’s level; 2 years post‑graduate experience for Associate’s level.
License/Certification :
Engineer‑in‑Training Certificate issued by the NH Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (E. I.T. required; non‑certificate holders may be hired with a one‑salary grade reduction).
Valid driver’s license or access to transportation for statewide travel.
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting agency minimum standards.
Civil Engineer II
Education : Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution; or Bachelor’s degree with no required experience; or Associate’s degree with 18 months of experienced engineering at the Civil Engineer I level plus two (2) additional years as an Engineering Technician.
Experience : None required for Master’s level; 18 months post‑baccalaureate experience for Bachelor’s level; or the experience combination for Associate’s level.
License/Certification :
Engineer‑in‑Training Certificate issued by the NH Office of Professional Licensure and Certification.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS
Civil Engineer I : Understanding of engineering fundamentals, surveying, material testing, drafting, basic drawing skills, laboratory testing, and strong communication with the public and team members.
Civil Engineer II : Proficiency in mathematics and trigonometry, surveying, drafting, moderate technical calculations, plan interpretation, supervisory skills for skilled/unskilled workers, and public interaction.
Civil Engineer III : Advanced civil engineering knowledge, modern construction methods, surveying and soil engineering, complex calculations, interpretation of plans, supervision of assistants, and effective communication with stakeholders.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS All work must comply with State and Department rules, including risk management, safety, environmental standards, and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES Civil Engineer I
Inspect construction and verify contractor compliance with plans and specifications.
Perform field measurements and engineering calculations.
Document project records for quality and quantity of work.
Check contractor survey layouts.
Resolve contradictory design requirements and recommend solutions.
Inspect safety devices for public and worker safety.
Maintain public relations by answering questions from the public.
Administer minor resurfacing and highway contracts.
Civil Engineer II
Inspect construction and verify contractor compliance.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed project phases.
Perform field measurements and engineering calculations.
Document project records with required certifications.
Check contractor layouts.
Resolve conflicting design requirements through engineering practice and coordination.
Inspect safety devices.
Supervise the training and education of subordinate personnel; may include supervising consultant inspection personnel.
Maintain public relations.
Civil Engineer III
Supervise inspection and monitoring of projects to ensure compliance.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed project phases.
Supervise preparation of project records with required certifications.
Resolve conflicting design requirements.
Exercise engineering judgment affecting public and worker safety.
Supervise training and education of subordinate personnel.
Maintain public relations.
Prepare and approve progress payments to contractors.
