Med/Surg Staff Nurse - Per Diem

EAP Rate of Pay:
$77.01/hour + DOE + Shift Differential ($64.46 Base Pay includes 12.5% per diem premium)
Summary Performs the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe therapeutic care to patients in hospital by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assesses physical and psychosocial needs of patients.
Plans individual care of patient and documents care plan.
Implements and evaluates individual plan of care.
Evaluates effectiveness of interventions.
Identifies and provides education to patient and/or significant other.
Coordinates resources for complete and effective patient care.
Possesses effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Utilizes equipment properly.
Participates in departmental growth and development.
Pursues professional growth.
Follows patient care standards.
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, an allay apprehension.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment and examination of patient, as appropriate.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction.
Makes beds, bathes and feeds patients.
Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
Ability to work standby.
Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
Complies with System policies and procedures.
Other duties as may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience Associate's degree
Graduation from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.
6 months to 1 year of relevant experience
Required Licenses and Certifications
California Registered Nurse Licensure - Upon hire
Nevada Registered Nurse Licensure - Upon hire New employees hired into the District after September 1, 2012 must have California and Nevada RN licenses. If hired as a temporary or seasonal RN, must have current CA RN license only.
Employees in this job classification on 1/1/2023 have until June 1, 2023 to obtain a Nevada RN license, unless hired prior to 9/1/2012.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certificate - Upon hire
ACLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Advanced Life Support (ALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous ACLS certification). - Within 3 months of hire into job
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Employees that have never been certified must take a live initial AHA certification class. Employees with recently expired certifications will be enrolled in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI). Certification must be completed within specified time frame. - Within 6 months of hire into job
Other Experience and Qualifications Preferred:
One year experience in Acute Care nursing as a registered nurse.
ICU experience is preferred to provide additional staffing coverage in the ICU as needed.
