Overview
The County of El Dorado’s District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to investigating and prosecuting a wide range of criminal, civil, and juvenile cases. This position offers opportunity for an experienced investigator to work in a modern, fully paperless environment with cutting‑edge technology.
Responsibilities
Plan, direct, and conduct complex investigations related to criminal, civil, and juvenile cases including child abuse, code enforcement, narcotics, sexual assault, environmental crimes, consumer fraud, real estate fraud, workers’ compensation fraud, and welfare fraud.
Locate and interview defendants, complainants, law enforcement officials, witnesses, and other involved parties, including defendants in custody, juvenile hall, and mental facilities.
Analyze police, court, and other records; prepare and serve subpoenas; prepare search and arrest warrants.
Arrange transportation, housing, and protection for witnesses granted immunity or paid operators and informants.
Collect, secure, and preserve evidence (photographs, fingerprints, diagrams, etc.) and prepare court exhibits.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, detail‑oriented investigator with experience in welfare fraud or financial crime investigations. They have a strong background working criminal cases from initial complaint through prosecution, including developing investigative plans, conducting interviews, collecting and analyzing evidence, and preparing comprehensive investigative reports. They possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff from health and human services, prosecutors, and other law enforcement agencies. Experience preparing and serving search and arrest warrants, testifying in court, and managing sensitive investigations with discretion is highly desirable.
Minimum Requirements
High school graduation or equivalent, supplemented by college‑level coursework in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field.
One (1) year of criminal investigative experience with a law enforcement agency or three (3) years of law enforcement experience equivalent to a patrol deputy.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid California Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.
Current California basic or higher P.O.S.T. certificate, meeting California Government Codes 1029 and 1031 (Minimum Standards for Peace Officers).
