About The Role The VP of Finance is responsible for the stewardship of Caring Network’s financial operations, combining strategic oversight with hands‑on management of accounting, reporting, and compliance functions. This position reports to the President/CEO, leads a finance project manager and finance assistant, supervises HR and IT operations, and oversees the relationship with vendor Cedarstone. The VP of Finance partners with leadership to provide timely financial insights, supports informed decision‑making, and champions process improvements across finance, HR, and IT.
Responsibilities
Account & Month‑End Close: maintain the general ledger and ensure proper accounting treatment of all transactions in accordance with GAAP.
Lead and execute the monthly and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of processing.
Review and approve coding of invoices, monthly account reconciliations, and journal entries.
Ensure bank reconciliations and cash management procedures are completed accurately and on time.
Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, restricted funds, departmental P&L) and distribute to Leadership and Board.
Provide variance analysis, key insights, and recommendations to department heads and leadership team.
Maintain internal financial dashboards and reporting tools to track KPIs.
Lead the annual budgeting process, partnering with department heads to develop and finalize budgets.
Monitor budget performance, investigate variances, and recommend cost‑saving measures or reallocation.
Assist with periodic reforecasts and long‑range planning.
Manage the annual audit and 990 preparation, providing all necessary schedules and documentation.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintain a strong system of internal controls.
Review and update policies and procedures to mitigate risk and maintain operational efficiency.
Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with tax and labor regulations.
Supervise HR operations, including compensation, benefits administration and compliance with employment law.
Supervise IT operations, including vendor relationships, system security and user support.
Ensure IT solutions meet organizational needs in a cost‑effective and secure manner.
Partner with IT providers on system upgrades, security reviews and technology planning.
Supervise finance and HR staff, providing coaching, development and performance management.
Collaborate with the President and Leadership Team to provide financial insights that support strategic decision‑making.
Participate in staff and leadership meetings as a representative of finance, HR and IT functions.
Identify and implement process improvements across finance, HR and IT to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Stay current on best practices and relevant regulatory changes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
MBA or advanced coursework in finance a plus.
7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including management of a full‑cycle accounting function.
Experience overseeing HR and IT operations preferred.
Deep knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross‑functional teams.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with HRIS and IT systems preferred.
Excellent communication skills with ability to present financial and operational information clearly.
