Job Summary This position is designed as a stable/farm hand for the Clemson University Equine Center. The employee will maintain the farm’s current functionality and improve its efficiency and aesthetic.
Job Duties
40% – Assist with upkeep of all 3 barns and additional buildings, including minor maintenance repairs, cleaning, and safety.
40% – Mow grass, bush-hog, fence repair, weed control, arena drag, pasture improvement, manure management, and hay/feed pickup & delivery.
10% – Maintain all CUEC farm equipment (tractors, mowers, skid steer, etc.).
10% – Assist the management team with herd health and management: daily care, feeding, stall cleaning, assist veterinarians and farriers, transport horses.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in animal husbandry, agriculture, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
1+ year of work experience in animal care or agricultural research.
Responsibilities
Fundamental job knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures.
Acts as a lead, guiding work of peers who perform similar tasks.
No fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.
Physical Requirements
Stand for a prolonged period.
Sit (stationary position) for a prolonged period.
Walk or move about.
Use hands or feet to operate or handle machinery, equipment, etc.
Ascend or descend stairs or ladder.
Position self to accomplish tasks (stoop, kneel, crawl).
Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself.
Recognize or inspect visually.
Move, transport, raise or lower objects.
Extend hands or arms in any direction.
Use taste or smell to detect or determine particular flavors or odors.
Perceive, observe, maintain clarity of vision.
Working Conditions
Exposure to heat or cold.
Exposure to dust/fumes.
Wet or humid environment.
Noise and vibration.
Mechanical hazards.
Chemical hazards.
Electrical hazards.
Radiant energy hazards.
Exposure to bio-hazards (blood, bodily fluids).
Work Schedule Standard Hours: 37.5 per week.
Compensation Salary Range: $37,500 – $45,000.
Essential Personnel Level Essential Level 2 employee—required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume.
Location Anderson, SC.
