Job Description
Pay Range: $30hr - $40hr The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing clinical laboratory tests accurately and efficiently while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. The role requires following established laboratory procedures, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the reliability of patient test results. Responsibilities
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures as outlined in department SOPs. Review and release test results in accordance with laboratory protocols. Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all applicable safety guidelines. Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow established procedures whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels. Identify and resolve problems that may adversely affect test performance or promptly notify the senior technologist or supervisor. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications. Follow department procedures for reporting STAT or critical results to clients. Respond to questions from customers or other lab personnel, if applicable. Maintain complete and accurate records of all testing performed on-site. Maintain the general appearance and organization of the department. Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, expiration, and opened dates. Review and participate in training on new procedures. Attend monthly departmental meetings and all additional training or educational sessions as required. Participate in all applicable safety training sessions and know the location and contents of the safety manual and equipment. Participate in government or regulatory inspections, if required. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Required Knowledge
Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing procedures. Proficiency in computer systems and adaptability to multiple software platforms. Knowledge of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) principles. Understanding of all areas within the laboratory environment. Qualification And Education
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology. Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology accepted. Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990). Foreign-educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation). National certification as MT/MLT from ASCP or AMT preferred. Experience
Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high complexity testing preferred. National and State licensure as required. Should Have
ASCP certification (or equivalent) preferred. Minimum 2 years of Chemistry experience preferred. Special Requirements
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple procedures simultaneously. Strong collaboration and communication skills across departments. Customer service skills and professionalism in client interactions. Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
