Position Summary Baylor College of Medicine and Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center seek an experienced, visionary physician leader to serve as Chief of the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU). The Chief will set strategy and lead clinical, educational, research, and operational excellence for a growing program within one of the nation's premier cardiovascular centers.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership: Direct day-to-day operations of the CVICU, including staffing, patient flow, quality, safety, and resource utilization across high-acuity populations (post-cardiac surgery, ECMO/MCS, heart & lung transplant, complex cardiopulmonary failure).

Program Development: Drive program growth, innovation, and adoption of new technologies (e.g., ex vivo organ perfusion, novel circulatory/respiratory support systems).

Quality & Outcomes: Define, monitor, and report metrics (STS, mortality, complications, LOS, ECMO days, readmissions, resource use); lead CQI projects and pathways.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with cardiac surgery, anesthesia, cardiology/heart failure, pulmonary/transplant, perfusion, nursing, respiratory therapy, and ancillary services to advance team-based care.

Education & Scholarship: Oversee trainee and faculty education; support clinical trials and translational/quality research; promote scholarly output.

People & Operations: Mentor and develop faculty and APPs; lead budgeting, scheduling, policy development, accreditation/compliance, and culture-building.

Qualifications MD (or equivalent) with fellowship training in critical care medicine and a cardiovascular-relevant base specialty (e.g., cardiac anesthesiology, cardiology/heart failure, pulmonary/critical care, or cardiothoracic surgery).

Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor (or equivalent clinical rank).

Demonstrated expertise managing high-acuity CVICU populations, including ECMO and MCS (percutaneous and durable VAD, total artificial heart).

Experience working with heart and lung transplant programs.

Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record of effective cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Strong commitment to quality, patient safety, education, and research.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior leadership of an ICU, service line, or comparable program.

Experience implementing novel circulatory/respiratory support technologies.

Record of academic productivity (grants, publications, educational innovation).
