Summary Conducts procedures and tests using MRI equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday 5:00pm‑5:30am
Responsibilities
1. Patient Identification – Uses professional manners and methods, verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assists patients and family members that require extra attention, insures patient understanding whenever possible, and insures patient safety. Verifies pregnancy status on patients of child‑bearing age.
2. MRI Technology – Demonstrates knowledge of MRI and cross‑sectional human anatomy. Is competent in operation of MRI scanners, automatic injections of contrast, disc drives, gateways, PACS and laser printers. Maintains active status with ARRT or ARMRIT by accruing CE’s as needed. Interprets protocols and selects appropriate scanning parameters, shares knowledge with fellow technologists, and troubleshoots equipment issues.
3. Contrast – Administers oral contrast to adult and pediatric patients per protocol, establishes IV lines, administers IV contrast safely, determines contrast eligibility, and checks lab values before injection.
4. Image Transfer – Maintains thorough understanding of PACS, transmits images to QC, EMR, EPIC, and PACS, verifies segments at QC station, accesses IMPAX tools, completes and modifies orders timely, cancels duplicate orders to avoid billing errors, and ensures accurate charge information and demographics.
5. Other Duties – Performs tasks in a timely manner, runs schedule for consistent workflow, volunteers for challenging tasks and new research, produces quality diagnostic images, reviews charts and reports for correlation, maintains a clean work environment, documents incidents for improvement opportunities, and precepts new employees and students.
Other Information Education Requirements
Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science or completion within 3 months at time of application.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences, American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists, or be registry‑eligible; registry‑eligible candidates must provide a diploma from an accredited program.
Requires advanced certification in MR within one year of employment.
Successful candidates must become registered within one year of employment and maintain registry status and continuing education annually.
All imaging specialists must maintain current competency in HCP BLS.
Professional Experience Requirements
Prior education, training, and experience that provides the ability to perform the assigned tasks.
