Description The lab focuses on identifying genetic and lifestyle risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and developing innovative interventions for improving brain and cognitive health in older adults. Using a combination of cognitive, behavioral, and neuroimaging techniques, our primary goal is Alzheimer’s prevention.

The Clinical Research Assistant will be responsible for participant recruitment, outreach to the community, participant education, screening, enrollment, scheduling, and study visit assessments. The assistant will also assist with interacting with participants who are undergoing physical activity and virtual reality experiences during lab‑based training visits, ensuring comfort and safety.

The assistant will support database creation, maintenance, and updates; assist with daily procedures related to analyses for publication and presentation preparation; help create recruitment materials; act as a liaison with other UCSD departments and agencies; provide education to the general public regarding the ongoing clinical trial; and perform other project and miscellaneous duties as required.

Qualifications

Theoretical knowledge of psychology (bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Knowledge of clinical neuroscience and cognitive neuroscience, especially in patients with cognitive impairment.

Strong experience with computers (personal & Macintosh), Linux OS, Adobe, and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).

Excellent record keeping, database management, detail‑oriented, logical, methodological approach to problem solving.

Strong process orientation and administrative/organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments, maintain workflow, and meet critical deadlines.

Demonstrated knowledge of human subject research policies, federal regulations, IRB, and sponsored research requirements.

Ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and seek guidance when appropriate.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of participant information and knowledge of mandated reporting procedures.

Experience recruiting underserved communities (or related experience).

Experience collecting, coding, and scoring data using computerized measures per study protocol.

Experience conducting online and phone screens of participants.

Experience administering neurocognitive and behavioral assessments.

Experience conducting detailed clinical interviews.

Prior experience in a clinical research setting.

Proven interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English.

Special Conditions

Employment is subject to a criminal background check and occupational health clearance.

Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Reliable transportation required.

100 % on‑site position.

Pay Transparency Act Annual full pay range: $48,295 – $56,794 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $23.13 – $27.20. Factors considered include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
