Senior Professional Transportation Engineer – Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Base Pay Range:

$100,000.00/yr – $130,000.00/yr (shown by Alliant Engineering, Inc.)

Join Alliant Engineering, Inc., a growing employee‑owned firm focused on diversity, equity, and community impact. As the MOT Design Manager, you will lead a team of specialists on traditional and alternative delivery projects, driving innovative construction staging solutions.

The Impact You’ll Have:

Lead construction staging and traffic control plan generation; conduct MOT Taskforce meetings; develop Traffic Management Plans (TMP); and perform field reviews of deployed temporary traffic control configurations. You’ll have opportunities for complex staging on high‑profile mega‑projects nationwide.

Responsibilities:

Lead a cohesive project team that develops MOT, construction staging, and traffic control plans on complex traditional and/or alternative delivery projects.

Generate innovative construction staging alternatives that optimize traffic operations while maximizing constructability and safety.

Guide the development of temporary construction plans, including roadway geometrics, alignments, profiles, models, and drainage.

Oversee traffic control plan design, including temporary signing, striping, safety devices, and detours.

Author Traffic Management Plans (TMP) to analyze and document impacts and mitigation techniques to businesses, residents, and surrounding roadway systems.

Work closely with contractors and owners to understand constructability needs and project MOT goals.

Develop team members by promoting technical and career growth.

Identify and track future MOT project opportunities.

Author MOT focused portions of proposals and generate scope/schedule/budgets for traditional, alternative, and hard bid projects.

Lead the MOT Alternative Technical Concept (ATC) development process on Design‑Build projects.

Opportunity to travel to project pursuits and delivery outside of Minnesota, if desired.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

Licensed Professional Engineer with the ability to obtain MN licensure within 6 months

10+ years of progressive experience developing MOT, construction staging, or traffic control design and plans

Experience supervising, leading, teaching, and mentoring project staff

Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to MOT including temporary geometry design, construction staging, and traffic control

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a team‑oriented mindset

Skillful in presenting technical concepts to clients and the public in understandable terms

Technical expertise using Microstation/Geopak and OpenRoads Designer on transportation projects

Commitment to delivering high‑quality work on schedule

History of establishing and fostering strong client relationships

Design‑Build or CM/GC experience preferred

Experience developing ATCs on Design‑Build projects preferred
