Mortgage Loan Officer

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for soliciting and procuring new mortgage business, focusing on purchase and refinance opportunities. Establish and maintain contact systems with existing members and develop a reliable network of realtor and conventional referral sources. Assist members and the processing, underwriting, and closing departments through each loan transaction. Mortgage Loan Originators help clients choose the best loan by being knowledgeable about all product offerings and underwriting guidelines. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Solicit new and existing members as well as realtor clients for referrals and loans. Originate purchase and refinance mortgage loans in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures. Advise customers on product options. Assist loan processors and underwriters by obtaining complete documents from borrowers. Screens completed applicants; submits those qualified for further consideration to the Loan Committee for approval; provides additional information as required. Determine loan pricing/rates and assist members in securing/locking loan rates. Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Proven track record generating organic referrals, particularly realtor relationships. 3 years of mortgage industry experience preferably. Education/Certifications/Licenses
Active NMLS loan originator license is required. Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust, credibility, and diplomacy is required. Must be capable of having in-depth dialogues, conversations, and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports, and outside vendors that may involve sensitive or highly confidential matters. Communications may include motivating, influencing, educating, and/or advising others on matters of significance. Other Skills
Good understanding of Mortgage Loan Programs (Conv, FHA, VA, Jumbo). Evaluate loan applications to determine borrower’s financial standing, creditworthiness, and feasibility – must be motivated and confident with excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional communication skills. Understand basic mathematics principles and be familiar with various computer software programs; comfortable with automated technology. Must be able to type, use a PC, and general office equipment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to report facts and technical information clearly and concisely. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential. Must demonstrate the ability to respond in a timely manner. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to utilize resources to seek help for resolution of loan issues as needed. Foster strong relationships with realtors and other referral resources to generate new loan opportunities. ADA Requirements
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including CRTs, typewriters, telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6–8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise. Mental And/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either alone or as part of a team. Must read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must complete complex mathematical calculations and spell accurately. Must speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.
