POSITION PURPOSE Serve food and beverage items to customers in a friendly, enthusiastic, professional, and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Take orders for and serve all food and beverage requests, using suggestive selling techniques. Clear tables during service. Control guest checks and secure proper payment.

Ensure station and table set‑ups are complete and perform various side duties as assigned by the Outlet Supervisor.

Maintain proper condition and cleanliness of dining areas and servicing equipment.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Regular attendance is essential. Employees with irregular attendance may face disciplinary action up to termination. Work varying schedules as required by the hotel. Attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required. Upon employment, employees must fully comply with Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa rules and regulations; violations will be subject to disciplinary action up to termination.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

Additional duties as necessary and assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

Must possess basic communication skills, both verbal and written.

Must possess basic computational and computer skills.

Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware.

Ability to describe all menu items, prices and methods of preparation, and to use suggestive selling techniques to encourage guests to choose house specialties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work indoors at moderate temperatures; ability to work in extreme temperatures such as freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F) for an hour or more.

Stand and move for up to 4 hours continuously.

Move between simultaneous functions.

Lift trays up to 30 lbs. and push/pull carts up to 250 lbs. regularly.

Perform bending, stooping, squatting, and stretching for cleaning tasks.

Manual dexterity required to use equipment.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Two years as a food server in a full‑service restaurant required; customer service experience preferred.

Licenses or Certificates:

Minimum age to serve alcohol.

Grooming:

Maintain neat, clean, well‑groomed appearance per hotel standards.
