Job Summary Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader IV will plan, implement, and promote activities such as after-school programs, youth and adult sports, aquatics, classes, excursions, special events, and other department programs, activities and events.
Duties Assists with the development and implementation of recreation programs and applicable budgets; assists in the implementation of service programs; implements and directs specialized recreational classes for the community; prepares oral and written reports; assists with daily departmental activities; plans, initiates and organizes regularly scheduled activities and special programs; directs staff in gathering equipment needed for a program; ensures staff perform checks on equipment for safe operations; ensures staff distributes equipment to coaches, participants and officials; reports unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor and assists with reducing safety hazards to participants; responsible for supervision of staff members' proper handling of supplies and funds; may coordinate or supervise all activities in an assigned recreational center; coordinates and instructs various club activities; may collect and record money received; maintains records and reports as required; assists in promoting recreational events to the community; may assist in the administration of additional programs and activities; oversees operations and scheduling of City facilities and programs; supervises and trains subordinate staff; other duties as assigned.
Schedule The incumbent may work a varying schedule of hours which may include nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. This Position is limited to 988 hours per Fiscal Year.
Knowledge Basic objectives, methods, and techniques of planned recreation: sports, games, and group activities; suitable for children; safety practices; knowledge of the equipment facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program, all duties listed and described in Recreation Leader I, II, and III positions.
Ability Organize and supervise the activities of groups using recreational facilities; conduct recreational activities; keep simple records and prepare reports and notices; establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships; ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing, perform all duties listed and described in Recreation Leader I, II, and III positions.
Typical Qualifications The equivalent to four (4) years of work experience in recreation and community services is desirable. Ability to deal effectively with public, effectively communicate orally and in writing, and follow directions. Direct experience in leadership volunteer work or recreation activities is required.
