Patient Account Representative, Self-Pay-Collector, Part-Time
Location: Fairfax, VA. Status: Part-Time/Non-Exempt. The Patient Account Representative – Self-Pay Collector is responsible for following up with patients regarding past due balances to collect payment for services rendered. This includes setting up payment plans and processing payments via various methods and systems, discussing Virginia Heart’s internal charity program and the INOVA charity program with patients or their representatives, and reviewing EPIC schedules to identify self-pay patients prior to appointments. The role represents Virginia Heart in financial matters related to patients’ accounts and communicates with patients, families and insurance companies in a manner consistent with the organization’s mission of excellence in cardiovascular care.

Responsibilities
Review delinquent account records.
Inspect outstanding accounts in queue or via AR reports.
Maintain a tickler file of accounts and follow up by telephone and correspondence on outstanding balances.
Prepare accounts for turnover to collection agency.
Answer inquiries from patients, insurance carriers, and offices in a timely manner.
Be an expert in using the claims and billing system to its fullest capacity.
Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Assistant Manager.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred: CPT and ICD‑10 CM coding criteria and guidelines; EPIC experience.
Skill Requirements
Minimum of 1 year direct experience in healthcare billing (office, hospital or physician practice) preferred.
Experience in collections industry preferred.
Knowledge of third‑party payers required.
Ethical and honest work habits.
Self‑motivated, flexible, punctual, detail oriented, logical thinker with good time management and excellent communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and communicate with managers and directors about changes or concerns.
