The DB2 Administrator is responsible for supporting, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise DB2 environments across pre‑production and production systems. This role focuses on ensuring database performance, integrity, and scalability while proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks. The DB2 Administrator will collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure SDLC readiness, maintain environment stability, and establish governance for support and monitoring processes within a hybrid delivery model (onshore/offshore/nearshore).

Key Responsibilities

Program Walk-Throughs & SDLC Readiness

Conduct structured program walk-throughs prior to code releases, scanning COBOL/DB2 components and SQL for efficiency and performance optimization.

Validate binds to the correct schemas, review data integrity impacts, and provide actionable feedback to development teams.

Serve as a pre-production gatekeeper to streamline SDLC processes and minimize regression risk.

Maintain the integrity of multi‑environment development landscapes (multiple schemas/environments).

Manage storage, volume, and data refreshes, including flash copies of production data for development environments.

Monitor and manage database utilities, archiving, and quarterly data purges in line with enterprise policies.

Establish and manage a formal ticketing process (e.g., ServiceNow), L2 triage, and documentation (runbooks/playbooks).

Participate in Agile stand-ups and ensure timely incident response and root cause analysis.

SQL Performance Monitoring & Tuning

Analyze performance traces and metrics to identify workloads exceeding CPU or utilization thresholds.

Execute query, index, and parameter tuning to optimize performance.

Enhance monitoring solutions (e.g., SolarWinds, Dynatrace, Splunk) to streamline alerting and improve capacity management.

Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to ensure resilient, compliant operations.

Define and enforce L2 SLAs/OLAs, escalation paths, and incident/problem/change management best practices (ITIL).

Develop and maintain operational dashboards, performance reports, and improvement backlogs.

Coordinate across global (onshore/offshore/nearshore) teams to ensure consistent, 24x7 hybrid support coverage.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives and communicate technical recommendations to leadership.

Required Qualifications

7–10+ years of experience as a DBA/Database Engineer supporting DB2 (Mainframe/z/OS) in enterprise environments.

Strong knowledge of JCL, COBOL/DB2 packages, BIND/REBIND, RUNSTATS, REORG, indexing strategies, and query optimization.

Proven experience with performance tuning, patch management, backup/restore, and high‑availability concepts.

Experience establishing support governance — including ticketing workflows (e.g., ServiceNow), L2 triage, SLAs, and documentation.

Proficiency with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Dynatrace, or Splunk.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across global delivery teams.

Willingness to participate in maintenance windows and on‑call rotations.

Preferred Qualifications (if any)

Exposure to Oracle or other mainframe database systems.

Scripting experience in Shell, PowerShell, or Python.

ITIL v4 Certification or equivalent.

IBM DB2 and/or Microsoft SQL Server certifications.

Experience working in retail, consumer goods (CPG), or other high‑throughput environments.

Certifications (if any)

IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 (preferred).

ITIL v4 Foundation Certification (preferred).

Microsoft SQL Server DBA Certification (optional).
