Position Summary The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Department of Cardiovascular Services seeks a board‑certified/board‑eligible Advanced Heart Failure Cardiologist to join our growing faculty. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex heart failure, including pre‑ and post‑transplant care, mechanical circulatory support, and advanced therapies. The role is part of a dynamic academic cardiology program in a collegial, team‑based environment. Faculty physicians enjoy access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities and strong institutional support for both clinical and academic growth. This appointment does not involve transplant or LVAD implantation, as these services are referred to external centers. The position is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on a clinical track, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and interests.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care for patients with advanced heart failure, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support or transplant evaluation.
Participate in the development and advancement of the Advanced Heart Failure program, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Serve as attending physician at one primary site, with coverage rotating among two hospitals and satellite clinics.
Participate in inpatient rounding every 6th weekend, with support from cardiology fellows (no year‑round call requirement).
Teach and mentor general cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students in both formal and informal settings.
Engage in scholarly activity including quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, and collaboration with Marshall’s translational and biomedical sciences programs.
Additional Information
This position qualifies for J‑1 visa sponsorship.
Faculty are supported by an ACGME‑approved cardiology fellowship program and advanced cardiovascular imaging programs.
Marshall Health is part of a thriving health system with two major hospital partners and an expanding regional network.
Qualifications MUST be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Education
MD or DO (or foreign equivalent).
Experience
Successful completion of an ACGME‑accredited Cardiovascular Disease fellowship and an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship.
Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease; Board Eligible in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology.
Must hold or be eligible for a full and unrestricted West Virginia medical license at the time of employment.
Must meet qualifications for faculty appointment at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
