Responsibilities

Ability to work in the San Antonio, Texas area depending on project needs.

Evaluate the job, construction route, and be familiar with the traffic flow prior to project start.

Walk door to door, meeting with all residential customers, address any concerns, take pictures, make detailed notes and point out any concrete or paving damage prior to starting construction to avoid problems later. All documentation uploaded into FieldLogIQ.

Meet with contractor to review job and discuss any concerns, obtain crew list and confirm they are Operator Qualified (OQ) before commencement of work.

Document the progress of each project daily in FieldLogIQ following the entry requirements outlined in the FieldLogIQ User Expectations Form. Client‑specific systems and forms may be required.

Make field recommendations on line placement when unknown conflicts arise, confirming changes in writing by email with appropriate client representative.

Verify tie‑in points are acceptable by ensuring the tapped line meets the minimum wall thickness, observing and documenting the measurement results by the welder or corrosion specialist.

Understand Best Management Practices including proper placement of silt fencing and hay socks.

Visually inspect the welds and fusions on all fittings and joints, verify adherence to all manufacturer and client procedures.

Observe proper jeeping of pipelines, document voltage and results, visually inspect coating of welds, repair anomalies and document the measurement of coating thickness.

Determine if services need to be installed at a particular customer location, coordinate tie‑ins with construction department and service rebuilds with service department.

Understand meter placement for relocates and move‑outs outlined in the client’s construction standards.

Help resolve landscaping and/or restoration issues in collaboration with contractor, customer, and client.

Confirm accuracy of contractor documentation and invoices to reflect specific tasks and/or linear feet of pipe installed.

Accurately complete all documentation including OQ list, completion report, as‑built install and retirement drawings, material list, anode cards, pressure test charts, service data, and service field orders within the allotted time frame.

Understand city and county paving cut‑and‑backfill standards.

Verify paving and concrete repairs with contractor.

Communicate effectively, both written and orally.

Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report incidents, near misses, accidents and injuries as outlined in the Event Reporting Guidelines. Provide leadership through example and sharing of knowledge/skills.

Assist the Inspection Manager with training of incoming inspectors.

Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve goals.

Extensive travel required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Read and understand construction prints.

Sketch construction drawings and/or use software for construction diagrams (as‑built).

Maintain accurate project records and documentation during construction.

Adhere to safety standards and take a proactive role in reducing safety risk.

High attention to detail and level of accuracy.

Establish credibility and relationships with a broad range of individuals.

Perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Meet project deadlines.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.

AWS CWI or CPWI certification required.

5 years of experience in the natural gas industry preferred (more experience may be required by specific clients).

Experience with visual inspection of steel pipe welds and polyethylene pipe fusions, reading construction prints, and completing as‑built drawings preferred.

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a car or truck.

Hands‑on construction experience desired.

Physical Demands

Duties performed primarily outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions.

Moderate physical activity including somewhat strenuous daily tasks of a primarily productive/technical nature.

Ambulate across uneven surfaces in a construction excavation work zone, bending at knees and waist frequently.

Work in a very loud, active construction environment.

Communicate accurately with co‑workers and clients; frequent exchange of information required.
