We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter for our start‑up Surplus Lines division. In this role, the underwriter will determine individual risk for acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions by developing, analyzing and evaluating information and exposures on risks of a increasing complex technical nature with a high level of authority.
Pay range
– $91,389.00/yr – $140,737.00/yr
Responsibilities
Researches and develops new classes of business as directed. Researches market trends and competition.
Assesses market viability, suggests form wording on endorsements and exclusions and supports rate changes based on global strategy.
Reviews individual risks submitted by assigned agents to determine acceptability within company guidelines.
Analyzes exposures to loss, develops an adequate premium charge for the exposure, determines endorsements and exclusions to address loss exposures for the insurance contract, including developing manuscript wording appropriate to the risk.
Achieves team/individual production and loss ratio goals with assigned agents/brokers through sound book management and marketing.
Oversees or handles policy maintenance items and other mid‑term requests, as well as conducting mid‑term policy audits.
Travels to agent offices as required for training, marketing or production visits. Assists with development of marketing ideas and strategies.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; relevant, progressively responsible work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
Minimum of four years Excess & Surplus Lines casualty underwriting experience.
Demonstrated ability to effectively assess risks, price, and negotiate business in accordance with established guidelines.
Advanced knowledge of current market conditions, trends, competition, and new products/coverages being offered by competitors.
Thorough understanding of key exposures and portfolio pricing techniques.
Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to analyze, define and solve problems; use of good judgment and decision‑making.
Advanced ability to determine customer needs, provide solutions and price business appropriately.
Valid Driver’s License.
