Summary This position is part of the United States Park Police Services Division, Technical Services Branch. The dispatcher provides 911 emergency and non‑emergency call taking services, coordinates rescue, ambulance and helicopter operations, and supports law enforcement communications. The role operates 24/7.

Responsibilities

Serve as a dispatcher for the US Park Police using dispatch operating systems, databases and equipment.

Perform dispatch and call‑taking services for a wide variety of complex public safety incidents and operations.

Coordinate rescue, ambulance, helicopter and other agency operations.

Receive and evaluate emergency calls for service.

Provide dispatch support to law enforcement activities.

Query & relays BOLO, ATL and other law‑enforcement information.

Operate National Criminal Information Network (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Communications System (NLETS) and state criminal information networks (ACCESS, TLETS, VCIN, etc.).

Monitor alarm systems (intrusion, fire, robbery, panic, maintenance) and ensure appropriate response.

Assist law‑enforcement officers with investigations.

Pay Information GS‑6: $51,442 – $66,872 per year GS‑7: $57,164 – $74,318 per year GS‑8: $63,307 – $82,305 per year

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship required.

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

Participation in Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

Pass drug test; subject to random drug testing.

Wear uniform in compliance with US Park Police standards.

Work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work as required.

One‑year probationary period for new federal employees or supervisors.

Obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Maintain required dispatching and emergency‑management certifications within 12 months of employment.

Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement (12/31/2025).

GS‑06:

At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑05 level, including customer service in a fast‑paced environment, multi‑line telephony, and input into computer systems.

GS‑07:

At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑06 level, including operation of public safety dispatch systems (NCIC, NLETS, CLETS, CAD) with limited supervision.

GS‑08:

At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑07 level, including independent operation of NCIC, NLETS, CLETS, CAD and related computer‑based equipment.

Volunteer experience is acceptable if it includes paid or unpaid work, e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, community service.

Physical Demands The dispatcher works in a confined, temperature‑controlled communications center, often using voice communication for extended periods. The role is sedentary but may involve lifting up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions The work is performed in a well‑lighted, temperature‑controlled room with high noise levels. The position requires shift work, rotating shifts and may involve work during severe weather or emergencies.
