Director of Tennis
Reports to: Executive Director & Camp Director
Academy Camps is an overnight sports-specific sleepaway camp experience that takes place on the campus of Suffield Academy (CT). We are looking for an experienced and organized Director of Tennis for our 2026 summer season. This is a turn‑key role that allows you to focus on helping athletes get better in their sport without all the operational and logistical hurdles – you don’t even need to bring your own cones!
Who We Are Academy Camps offers 1‑week sessions for Boys & Girls aged 10‑15 interested in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis & volleyball. Our campers choose one of our 8 "Academy Sports" and receive 2 intensive training sessions per day with our high‑performance coaching staff. Our program is focused on Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership mixed with daily traditional sleepaway camp activities.
Position Overview Our Director of Tennis is a member of our senior‑level staff. They will develop and coach a program aimed to improve our Tennis athletes’ physical, mental, and emotional skills. You will oversee, mentor, and guide the professional development of 1‑6 coaches. Under your direction, athletes will focus on improving their sports‑specific skills, game IQ, love of the game, and overall physical fitness. The program will also teach confidence, growth mindset, and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities
Create and implement a one‑week Academy Camps Tennis Program with coaching strategies designed to support athletes in achieving their goals
Get to know every athlete well and respond to their individual needs
Mentor athletes to foster athletic, emotional, and social growth
Apply basic youth development principles in working with athletes and staff through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and empowerment of youth
Complete the Academy Camps Tennis Athlete Evaluation for every athlete upon completion of their session with support from coaching staff
Support recruiting to identify and hire your ideal coaching team
Manage and mentor 1‑6 coaches by providing responsibilities, regular feedback, and end‑of‑session staff evaluations
Maintain equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions
After each training session, ensure the area is clean and equipment is stored
Participate as a member of the camp team to deliver and supervise electives, evening programs, special events, and other all‑camp activities as needed
Actively participate in all staff training & meetings
Manage and coordinate inter‑league or inter‑camp competitions
Option To Increase Compensation Through Camper Referral Program
Earn referral bonuses by driving the recruitment of prospective athletes
Your Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
6+ years experience coaching, with certifications preferred
Proven track record of program development and management
Holistic approach to coaching – develop the whole athlete physically, mentally, and emotionally
Excellent relationship builder – quick to connect and build trust
Goal‑oriented coach – motivated to support athletes in achieving goals
Creative problem‑solver – identify issues and implement solutions that ensure ongoing development
Growth mindset – willing to receive and implement feedback and learn from mistakes
Expectations, Compensation, And Benefits
Available and on‑site for full summer session including staff pre‑season training and post‑camp: June 20 - August 8
Room and board included on‑site at Suffield Academy, 463‑acre hilltop campus with state‑of‑the‑art athletic facilities
Competitive compensation commensurate with skills and experience
Option to increase compensation through Camper Referral Program: Earn $250 referral bonus per enrolled camper
