Job Summary The Project Engineer position at Jim Myers & Sons, Inc. (JMS) is a vital member of the Business Unit. The Project Engineer is responsible for providing project calculations, thoroughly reviewing plans and specifications, creating submittals, and assisting project managers. This role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including product managers, project managers, and designers, to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.

Responsibilities

Thoroughly review all plans & specs

Color code plans & specs for responsible parties and extract relevant contract drawings

Fill out kickoff checklist documents with pertinent project information

Identify and create all necessary RFIs for project execution

Complete all required project calculations, including process and structural calculations, and write detailed technical reports

Adhere to project schedule and specifications to meet the project’s objectives and milestones

Communicate and coordinate work with external PE resources as necessary to obtain approvals and certifications

Select and specify purchased components based on calculations and project requirements

Obtain quotes and models from vendors, ensuring all specifications are met

Lead design reviews and perform thorough drawing checks to ensure accuracy and compliance

Create comprehensive submittals, including catalog cut sheets, clarifications, and RFI’s

Review fabrication drawings and support manufacturing teams by addressing technical questions and design changes

Conduct thorough internal checks of all drawings and designs before submission

Interface on technical issues with project managers, design, manufacturing, purchasing, and field service

Provide guidance to technical writers and review O&M manuals

Some travel to plant sites required for field measurements, installation support, and troubleshooting

Follow all JMS, Inc. policies and procedures

Qualifications

High level of knowledge/experience with applying engineering principals to electro‑mechanical equipment

High level of proficiency with completing engineering calculations

Experience with the design of mechanical equipment, weldments, and assemblies

Experience with 3D & 2D design and detailing with SolidWorks & AutoCAD a plus

Experiencing with sizing and selecting components and created comprehensive submittal packages

Ability to work effectively & efficiently with project team members on multiple projects simultaneously

Strong communication skills including the ability to negotiate positive outcomes

Experience with power transmission equipment including motors, gearboxes, chain drives, shafts & bearings

Requires a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office: Teams, Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, & Outlook

Desired Experience And Skills

Experience with Risa or equivalent structural design and detailing software

Experience with fabrication processes such as bending, punching, welding, machining, etc.

Experience with the municipal water and wastewater industry a plus

Experience with water treatment processes a plus

Experience with FEA and/or CFD is a plus

Registered Professional Engineering License a plus

Education

Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant field of engineering with equivalent degree
