RESEARCH SPECIALIST I, School of Medicine, Neurology Full-time/Regular. Location: Boston, MA. Salary Grade: 45. This role is for the CTE Center and involves ensuring integrity and consistency of clinical data and data collection for the UNITE Study at the BU School of Medicine Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center (CTE). The incumbent will coordinate brain donations, perform brain dissections and collect brain samples, and cut and stain brain tissue for immunohistochemical analyses.

Responsibilities

Oversee project to process, store, and track incoming brain donations, collaborating with the data-core team to build tracking systems for microscope slides and other banked specimens.

Coordinate brain donations at the time of donors passing, including coordination with funeral homes, pathology dieners, and presentation at the lab for tissue delivery.

Perform brain dissections and preserve specimens.

Acquire clinical data by leading family interviews with next-of-kin and/or family members.

Acquire and review medical records, utilizing data to produce consensus summary forms.

Prepare data analysis and findings for case conferences; assist as backup lead moderator of bi-weekly and monthly consensus conference meetings.

Assist with coordination of case data documentation for scientific manuscript preparation and journal submissions.

Assist with all aspects of the research projects including study design and analysis of data.

Assist with any other research activities assigned by the supervisor, which may include scheduling meetings, sending emails, and coordinating communication with the Data Core and Brain Bank Cores.

Qualifications Strong technical and analytical skills; excellent organization and communication skills; ability to work with limited supervision; experience managing large volumes of incoming cases; knowledge of brain donation processes and data acquisition.
