Job Description To maintain our #1 Healthcare supply chain serving our patients, customers and parents – and remaining agile in the new digital world—J&J is looking to build capability in developing supply chain solutions that enable supporting the above initiatives.

This hybrid position may be based at any Johnson & Johnson office in New Jersey (Titusville, Horsham, or Raritan). If you are passionate about leveraging data science to address real-world challenges and foster innovation in a global environment, we encourage you to apply.

The role requires both an in-depth knowledge of existing advanced analytics practices and approaches including Machine Learning, Simulation, Statistics, basics of data pipelines and advanced visualization and the ability to influence and convince others and customize and work in a multidisciplinary environment to drive business solutions. Knowledge of application of advanced analytics to manufacturing and especially pharmaceutical / healthcare / medical device manufacturing is highly desirable.

The candidate will report to Director of J&J Supply Chain Data Science.

Responsibilities

Gather requirements for development of machine learning based solutions targeted to our pharmaceutical manufacturing sites

Work closely with functions such as manufacturing, quality and other site subject matter experts

Develop machine learning/simulation modeling proofs‑of‑concept (PoCs) that address key operational problems and generate business value. Validate those with operational experts

Work with data engineers and visualization experts to scale‑up those PoCs into full‑fledged solutions

Stay on the cutting edge of data science research and big data technologies

Work closely with colleagues to keep up‑to‑date with the latest approaches and advances in data science and evaluate vendor tools and external data sets as required

Works to achieve operational, functional, and/or business targets with impact on Data Science results

Creates, tests, validates, and deploys complex, multi‑stage models and/or scaling up of existing models and deep learning techniques

Develops experimental and analytic plans to improve modeling accuracy determining cause and effect relationships

Derives and communicates insights from complex structured and unstructured sources of data, drawing out connections, links, or insights across various analyses

Conducts analysis of third‑party data vendors and supports contract negotiations to bring in leading data science tools, methods, and practices

Analyzes processes and workflows to make recommendations for process improvements

Collaborates with analysts and data engineering on data mining architectures, algorithms, and models

Coaches and trains junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities

Integrates Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision‑making

Education

M.S., Ph.D. Industrial Engineering/Operations Research/Engineering / STEM discipline. At least 3 years of work experience is ideal for PhD candidates. At least 5 years of work experience would be preferred for Masters candidates

Qualifications

Deep expertise in mathematical programming methods (MILP, MINLP etc.), scenario simulation modeling techniques (discrete event simulation/Monte Carlo simulation) is required. Ability to translate complex operational problems into mathematical models is a must

Experience with solver such as Gurobi/Cplex solvers and simulation tools such as Simio/Extend/Arena etc. is required

Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms is required

Experience with key python libraries such as Pyomo, Numpy, SciPy is required

Experience with SQL queries for data extraction and preliminary data analysis and profiling is required

Experience with graph databases such as NEO4J would be ideal

Experience with ERP systems like SAP and non‑ERP systems including unstructured data sources is required

Exposure to manufacturing and/or supply chain planning processes in healthcare industry (pharma/med devices) is a plus

Experience in requirements gathering for operations research solutions is required

Experience with leading data science projects (requirements gathering, proof‑of‑concept build, working with data engineers for solution data connectivity, working with UX engineers for visualization, post‑deployment lifecycle management) is required
