Director – Product & Technology, Technology Industry Group (TIG) – Private Equity
Alvarez & Marsal is a leading independent global professional services firm specializing in turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services. The firm is expanding its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) – Technology Industry Group team and seeks a Director of Product & Technology to lead technology performance improvement, growth strategy, and M&A engagements.
What will you be doing?
Lead or support work streams focused on R&D and Product functions during technology performance improvement, growth strategy, or M&A engagements.
Evaluate product roadmaps, engineering processes, and innovation pipelines to determine alignment with business strategy.
Assess proprietary platform and software architecture for readiness, scalability limitations, and security posture.
Conduct system design interviews with R&D leadership (CTO, CPO, CIO, engineering leaders) to understand trade‑offs and identify red flags in a company’s R&D or product strategy, security posture, or scalability.
Engage during pre‑acquisition diligence to evaluate product prioritization process, enterprise architecture, software development lifecycle processes, headcount and non‑headcount investments, and organizational structures.
Assess cloud infrastructure and deployment models (AWS, Azure, GCP, hybrid) and identify cost/performance optimization opportunities.
Complete product parity assessments and develop recommended product integration strategy for M&A activity for competitor companies.
Drive day‑1 and 100‑day planning and execution, track progress against objectives, and adjust strategies or personnel as needed.
Manage merger‑in‑integration and carve‑out execution, ensuring seamless separation or integration.
Qualifications
9–14+ years in product management or R&D strategy roles (Product Manager, Group Product Manager, Director of Product, or R&D Strategy/Operations Lead) in mid‑to‑large software or semiconductor company.
Experience building or evaluating product roadmaps, prioritizing features, and aligning engineering spend with strategic goals.
Strong cross‑functional teamwork required to deliver high‑quality features on time and within scope.
Strong system design acumen; experience leading and evaluating technical and product interviews.
Hands‑on knowledge of modern cloud architecture, containerization, event‑driven systems, streaming data pipelines, and distributed data stores.
Ability to analyze R&D spend patterns (headcount, vendor costs, cloud spend, tooling) and link them to innovation or revenue outcomes.
Familiarity with Agile SDLC, DevOps practices, and tooling (CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, SAST/DAST).
Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; excellent communication abilities.
Team‑oriented, adaptable, curious, and quick learner.
Willing to travel up to 25%.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
Exposure to private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, or related transaction/merger integration is a bonus.
Compensation Base salary range: $150,000 – $225,000 annually. A&M offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance.
