Northrop Grumman Defense Systems — Strategic Mobile Command and Control provides an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network to join our talented and diverse team. Located in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential in supporting the Integrated Fires Rapid Capabilities Office.
Northrop Grumman designs, develops and delivers end‑to‑end communications and advanced networking capabilities sought out by U.S. and allied military forces. As the necessity for quick reaction capability increases; the need for a lightweight, rugged, transportable network becomes more vital for mission success. The Base Operations Network (BONEs) system was developed by Northrop Grumman to support this critical mission.
Creating a lightweight, scalable, rugged, cyber‑secure, and integrated network is critical to maintaining the strategic advantage needed to succeed across today’s rapidly evolving battlefield. The BONEs systems provide this capability with a proven track record of fielded systems spanning nearly 20 years.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on‑site work with no remote options.
Position Overview The Base Operations Network (BONEs) program integrates traditional core networking capacity and services via the Large‑Base Operations Network Enclosure (L‑BONE) and Small‑Base Operations Enclosure (S‑BONE). The L & S‑BONEs provide a robust and reliable network backbone supporting multiple tactical mission sites all over the world.
The candidate will serve as a primary Network Engineer supporting the BONEs Program in Network analysis, development, design, integration, and test.
Essential Functions
Will be responsible for learning how to plan, deploy, integrate, and test upgrades to the BONES network and operations
Responsible for traveling to remote locations to carry out test and integration events normally located at Yuma Proving Grounds
Must be an effective communicator with strong writing and presentation skills, proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio
Must thrive and do your best work in a collaborative and agile environment
Basic Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
Current, active in‑scope DoD‑issued Secret security clearance at the time of application
Current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start
Ability to travel up to 10% for business purposes
Knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies
Understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF
Network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs
Knowledge on multi‑vendor switching and routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizer, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Foundational knowledge of the IFRCO Customer and Command and Control Systems
Experience in C2 Networking environments
Kinetic and DE Effector Systems knowledge
EW Effectors and Sensors knowledge
Mobile and fixed Site Communications Infrastructure experience
Primary Level Salary Range: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
