Save Job

With nearly 500 professionals across 23 offices, this firm has grown from a modest surveying company in 1978 to one of the region’s most trusted engineering and consulting service providers. Their multidisciplinary team delivers a wide range of services — civil/site design, GIS, natural‑gas infrastructure, building code support, community‑development and training — all anchored by an unwavering commitment to the values of integrity, teamwork and long‑term relationships.

Position Summary We are seeking a highly accomplished and motivated Professional Engineer (PE) with 10+ years of highway/roadway design experience — including significant work on Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) projects — to serve as QA/QC Engineering Design Leader. In this role you will lead the firm’s QA/QC processes for UDOT and other transportation design contracts, oversee design deliverables, mentor and manage design teams, and ensure compliance with UDOT standards, specifications and project delivery workflow. You will act as the technical design lead for major roadway projects, shape quality assurance practices, and collaborate across multiple internal offices and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage QA/QC procedures for UDOT roadway and highway design projects, ensuring compliance with UDOT’s QC/QA standards and internal quality procedures.

Oversee the development, review and delivery of design documents (plans, specifications, cost estimates, calculations) for highway/roadway projects under UDOT contracts.

Serve as design leader or task manager on major transportation infrastructure projects, coordinating multi‑discipline teams and subconsultants.

Mentor, train and provide technical direction to mid‑ and senior‑level design engineers; build team capability in roadway/highway design best practices.

Collaborate with project managers, estimators, survey, drainage/geotechnical and right‑of‑way teams to deliver coordinated design efforts.

Participate in contract negotiations, scope definition and proposal development for transportation design assignments.

Monitor project schedules, budgets and quality metrics; identify risks and implement corrective actions to maintain project performance.

Serve as internal champion of design excellence — drive continuous improvement in workflows, design standards and QA/QC manuals specific to UDOT work.

Qualifications

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah or ability to obtain Utah PE licensure in short order.

Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in highway/roadway design with UDOT projects (or equivalent state DOT transportation work in Utah).

Deep knowledge of UDOT design standards, specifications, Project Delivery Network (PDN) procedures, and UDOT’s QC/QA manual. (e.g., as outlined in the UDOT QC/QA Procedures manual).

Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary design teams and delivering complex transportation infrastructure projects.

Strong technical competence in roadway geometry, drainage, grading, plan preparation, construction phase support and design checks.

Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring skills; ability to partner effectively with internal teams, clients and external agencies.

Solid organizational skills and attention to detail with a mindset for proactive quality management and client service.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related). Master’s degree and/or additional transportation certifications preferred.

Why This Opportunity This role offers a rare chance to join a respected regional firm that places high value on personnel development, technical leadership and long‑term career growth. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the firm’s transportation design practice, driving quality, and working on meaningful UDOT‑related projects that move Utah forward. If you’ve been looking for a step up into a leadership position where your highway/roadway design expertise will be fully leveraged — this could be the next ideal move.
