Job Overview Do you enjoy working with numbers? Are you wired to track spends and manage financial activities? Do you take pride in compiling reports and reconciliations? The Finance team in the Department of Public Safety is looking for that motivated individual to fulfill an Accountant II or III position in Pierre (with the level being determined by the experience and qualifications of the successful applicant). This position works with multiple programs within the department and accounts for multiple sources of funds. It is an exciting time to join the Finance team and be a part of the important work that happens behind the scenes! This is a Full-Time, 40 Hours Weekly position. Responsibilities
performing professional accounting work that requires the application of accounting and audit theories, concepts, principles, and standards to the financial activities of the State;
managing financial activity for federal grants;
initiating federal drawdowns for reimbursement of federal grant funds;
compiling federal quarterly financial reports for grants;
processing voucher payments and monitoring fiscal activities for multiple programs to ensure that funds are properly accounted for and allocated correctly;
performing reconciliations;
assisting with budget preparations;
allocating indirect costs;
assisting with subrecipient monitoring;
assisting with annual financial reporting.
Qualifications / Ideal Candidate A 4-year accounting degree with 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience is preferred to be considered for the Level III.
A 4-year accounting degree with 1-2 years of progressive accounting experience would be considered for the Level II.
Knowledge of
generally accepted accounting principles and practices;
Governmental Accounting;
State's INFOR accounting system is preferred, but not required;
Microsoft Excel, Word, Query and other desktop tools including pivot tables.
Ability to
comprehend and apply pertinent laws, rules, and policies;
conduct research, compile, and analyze financial data;
work independently as well as in a team environment;
perform in a deadline driven environment;
execute reconciliations and allocations;
use computers and applicable accounting software.
