Opportunity The UCF Building Department is looking for a Plans Examiner/Inspector at our main campus location in Orlando. We offer a competitive salary, pension, and an extensive benefits package including family tuition benefits.

This position is responsible for performing code reviews and inspections in University facilities in compliance with the Florida Building Code and is designated as Emergency Essential Personnel.

Responsibilities

Review construction plans and specifications for compliance with currently adopted standards related to mechanical codes. Prepare written reports approving or rejecting plans in accordance with the adopted codes.

Perform on‑site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes, approved plans, and specifications; coordinate corrective actions, and conduct follow‑up inspections. Record inspection results and plan review comments in permit tracking software.

Maintain records of inspections, violations, and corrections. The position will develop a strong knowledge of campus facilities to enable a smooth and efficient plan review/inspection process.

Represent the department in the area of expertise to various groups, such as architects, engineers, contractors, or subcontractors.

Prepare written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with the adopted codes.

Approve the installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant work experience in construction, design, or building inspections as supervisor or contractor. Must possess a minimum of one inspector license and one plans examiner license or receive an inspector certification within 6 months of hire and full licensure (two total) within one year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Current DBPR licenses in Plan Review and Inspections.

5 years of experience as a Licensed Inspector/Plans Examiner.

Experience as a building inspector.

Relevant work experience in construction, design, or building inspections as supervisor or contractor.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license and involves driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
