RECREATION SPECIALIST I (non-driving) - Range 7 / AMEA Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Hours and schedules vary: Monday thru Sunday; 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40‑40.

Under supervision, the Recreation Specialist I provides leadership and functional supervision to recreation and volunteer participants. Works primarily at the Recreation Center, leading and organizing daily program and facility activities and performs related work as required. Provides excellent customer service in‑person, via telephone and e‑mail, and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Three (3) months of experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, childcare facility, childcare program, camp, educational institution, therapeutic recreational program, team, organized youth program, or other similar program.

Certifications and Licenses

American Red Cross First Aid and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or equivalent within 30 days of hire.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Background and Other Conditions

A satisfactory background check is required, including criminal history, verification of education, and verification of employment dates.

Completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) and providing necessary identification and fingerprinting (including a fee of $47.00 plus the fingerprinting cost).

Submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications or equivalent.
