Painter II . The qualified candidate will perform interior and exterior painting, including painting jobs requiring the use of scaffolding, swinging stages, and motorized lifts, prepare surfaces for painting, staining, or varnishing such as walls, ceilings, interior furnishings, trim work, and exterior of buildings and offices, and mix and apply paints, stains, or varnish. Responsibilities

Perform interior and exterior painting using scaffolding, swinging stages, and motorized lifts to reach high places regularly. Prepare surfaces by washing down with special acids and catalysts, stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning to remove old coats, filling nail holes and spackling cracks, sanding rough spots, brushing off dust, caulking, applying primer or sealer on new surfaces, removing hardware, masking trims and molding, and laying down drop cloths before painting. Mix and thin paints or stains to achieve the desired color, shade, and texture. Apply paints, varnishes, or stains, choosing and using the right applicator for each job depending on the surface to be covered, the characteristics of the finish, and other factors to achieve the desired outcome. Observe all safety precautions and use equipment and chemical treatments properly to avoid harming oneself and others and damaging property. Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in clean and orderly condition. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge and skill in surface preparation, application techniques, paint mixing and matching, wood finishing, staining, and varnishing. Ability to paint high places both indoors and outdoors using scaffolding, swinging stages, and motorized lifts regularly. Ability to interact and/or work with faculty, students, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner. Ability to read and write to read work orders, maintain records, and schedule. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or graduation equivalent. Three years of relevant experience. This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered “probationary” employees until completion of 90 calendar days of employment. The university will notify the employees’ union. Bargaining Unit employees shall become eligible for benefits upon completion of their probationary period. Job Details
