The employee will contribute to improving life safety by obtaining compliance with applicable codes, local ordinances, and accepted standards.**Major Duties and Responsibilities**The Fire Inspector shall make recommendations for eliminating hazards, reference code violations to other enforcement agencies, and if necessary, initiate any legal action necessary to achieve code compliance.
Additional duties may include inspecting the storage and use of explosive or flammable material, issuing operational permits, and reviewing plans for approval of construction to ensure compliance with adopted codes and standards.**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**ADA and Other Requirements:Positions in this class typically require grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.Physical Requirements:* Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking for extended periods of time.* Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks.* Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.Sensory Requirements:Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proofreading, data entry, and tabulating data.* Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and/or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.* Comprehensive written information in work-related documents.* Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech.Working Conditions:Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions, moderate exposure to environmental conditions and frequent exposure to computer screens, files, and phone.**Minimum Qualifications**All applicants must possess or prequalify for a Standard Level I or Probationary Level II North Carolina Fire Inspector Certification through the North Carolina Department of Insurance.A NC Standard Level III Fire Inspector Certification *is preferred*; however, a NC Standard Level I or Probationary Level II Fire Inspector Certification *is required*.Applicants can visit:
