Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field and four (4) years of computer systems servers experience or an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field and six (6) years of experience with computer systems servers. Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state by time of appointment. Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification is required within six (6) months of appointment. Special Requirements

Under direction, lead, plan, develop, and provide technical and project management support of server software and hardware projects and ensure procedures adhere to organizational goals and objectives. Responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This includes acting as lead engineer in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conducting capacity planning of existing and new server systems; deploying large-scale servers and systems; configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with standards and project and operational requirements; maintaining installation and configuration procedures; contributing to and maintaining system standards; coordinating and collaborating with network administrators, business application, and database administration functions to ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of the servers to meet daily operations; assisting in the design and development of data center/server room security features, including HVAC control, environmental alarms, and access restrictions; performing daily system monitoring; verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes; performing regular security monitoring to identify possible intrusions; reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups; maintaining data center environmental and monitoring equipment. Perform server infrastructure functions, including assisting with daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and systems data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media; recovering tapes or disks, recycling and sending media offsite as necessary; performing regular file archival function and purging as necessary; monitoring and testing system performance and providing performance statistics and reports; creating shell scripts as required; creating, changing, and deleting user accounts by request; providing Tier III support to various city departments; investigating and troubleshooting server issues; repairing and recovering from hardware and/or software failures; coordinating and communicating with impacted customers; managing enterprise directory services; configuring and/or adding new services as necessary; and configuring CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Maintain server functionality, including maintaining server documentation and training materials; implementing server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches; performing ongoing performance tuning and resource optimization; resolving escalated server issues; applying OS patches and upgrades regularly and upgrading administrative tools and utilities; recommending and executing modifications to the server environment to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance; and performing related system administration duties as required.
