Automotive Controller
A well-established, family-owned import dealership in Union County, NJ is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to lead its accounting department. This is a long-term opportunity with a stable, reputable organization known for treating its employees well. The incoming Controller will inherit clean books and oversee a capable team of six in the accounting office. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on, detail‑oriented Automotive Controller who knows how to guide and develop their team while maintaining accuracy and accountability throughout the department.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong track record in dealership accounting, who not only understands the numbers but can clearly explain and apply them to business decisions. The Controller hired will work closely with a supportive General Manager and will be entrusted with maintaining the financial integrity of the operation. Experience on Reynolds and Reynolds is a big plus, but not mandatory. This is an excellent opportunity for a dependable, professional Controller who values stability, teamwork, and long‑term success with a respected, family‑run dealership.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all dealership accounting functions, including month‑end
Monitor daily operating control reports and identify variances.
Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Oversee and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure data accuracy.
Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations, and floorplan accounts.
Review and manage dealership expenses.
Train, develop, and manage accounting personnel.
Coordinate with department managers to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
Submit required factory reports and ensure compliance with franchise agreements.
Ensure dealership accounting complies with GAAP, IRS guidelines, and manufacturer requirements.
Review and manage dealership expenses
Partner with upper management on strategic planning and financial decision‑making
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Proven experience as an Automotive Controller in a dealership environment
Strong knowledge of dealership accounting systems and best practices
Ability to lead under pressure while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
Reynold and Reynolds experience is a plus
Compensation
Compensation in the $125,000 range
depending on experience and track record.
