Location: US:WI:MILWAUKEE at Froedtert Hospital facility.
Job type: Full-time (0.1 FTE)
Standard Hours: 4.00 per shift, Shift 1 (1 shift per week with preceptor).
Job Summary Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with tasks related to daily living. Responsibilities include supporting the Patient Care Director and RN’s on duty. Other duties as assigned.
Experience A minimum of two acute care medical‑surgical clinical rotations (or one medical‑surgical rotation and one pertinent rotation) from an accredited nursing school is required, or one medical‑surgical rotation with pertinent work experience. At least one rotation must include medication administration. Experience of six months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred.
Education Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, or a graduate awaiting NCLEX retake.
Special Skills Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, express understanding, and follow directions related to basic patient care. Interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, visitors, and physicians. Ability to perform simple comparisons between numbers, concentrate and pay attention to detail for 80% of work time, walk and stand up to 80% and lift and position patients up to 20% of work time.
Licensing State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; otherwise documentation from accredited school for professional nurses indicating completion of the basic nursing course as per Wisconsin administrative code. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent required within 90 days of hire.
