Job Description Clinical Lab Scientist I position is accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing following all applicable policies and procedures. The location is San Juan Capistrano, CA. Work schedule: Saturday to Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Pay range: $37.41 - $56.44 per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.

Sign‑on bonus: $5,000 (for external candidates only).

Responsibilities

Independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests following required procedures and policies and performs newly introduced tests requiring defined skills.

Prepares and oversees the preparation of reagents or media as well as stock solutions, standards, and controls. Tests new reagents or controls and evaluates their usefulness based on standard criteria.

Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures.

Determines calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures.

Accurately enters testing results and checks computer review reports to monitor accurate reporting of laboratory results. Adheres to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times.

Evaluates the acceptability of routine and complex analyses prior to releasing patient reports and takes appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual results.

Responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory equipment.

Evaluates the results of instrument performance checks and performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks as required.

Performs quality control and calibrations with the appropriate frequency and evaluates results to determine acceptability of result release.

Selects and evaluates control materials using established criteria and initiates corrective action when test systems fail to perform according to criteria.

Accurately performs and records proficiency testing.

Detects and corrects technical and operational problems and notifies supervisor or manufacturer for assistance as needed.

Ensures accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies.

Consistently maintains a safe and neat work area.

Demonstrates effective two‑way communication with staff, manager, suppliers, and customers.

Participates in staff meetings and quality improvement meetings as assigned.

Take on additional business‑related responsibilities or projects delegated by supervisor or manager.

Follow all required procedures, practices and related guidelines for safety, environmental, and infection control.

Collects and disposes of waste in proper receptacles.

Demonstrates high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Provides direct supervision to unlicensed staff and trains them in routine and complex procedures.

Maintains professional growth through continuing education that meets California state licensure requirements.

Answer phones, transfer or take accurate messages.

Comply with all health and safety policies, procedures and practices and use personal protective equipment.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Zero to three years of direct laboratory experience.

Bachelor’s degree in a science field.

Active California Laboratory Scientist (generalist or limited) license.

Physical And Mental Requirements

Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds with assistance; frequent lifting 1‑10 pounds, occasional 11‑25 pounds, rarely 26‑50 pounds.

Perform repetitive tasks, fine manipulation, frequent grasping and reaching.

Sit and/or stand for long periods.

Good eye‑hand coordination.

Color blindness test required upon hiring for certain technical functions.

Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Strong typing skills desirable.

Other automation skills helpful.

Education Bachelor’s degree in science required.

License / Certification Active California Laboratory Scientist (generalist or limited) license required.
