Sr. Physician Assistant – Cardiac Surgery (Sign-On/Relocation Bonus Available)
About the Institute:
The Cardiovascular Institute and Division of Cardiac Surgery at UCI Health in Orange, California is a leading program performing durable LVADs and complex ECMO care. Your Role:
Assist cardiac surgeons in all aspects of cardiac surgery, including endoscopic vein harvesting, large vessel exposure, femoral access, sternotomy, and ECMO cannulation. You will work four 10‑hour shifts per week, balancing operative and acute‑care responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform endoscopic vein harvesting and (or gain experience in) radial artery harvest.
First Assist in cardiac surgeries, including large vessel exposure, femoral access, sternotomy, and ECMO cannulation.
Advance surgical skills under guidance of dedicated cardiac surgeons.
Collaborate with attending surgeons, ICU physicians, and nurse practitioners to support patient care.
Assist in acute‑care procedures such as ECMO management and surgical interventions in the ICU and on the floor.
Requirements
Current, active, unrestricted California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
Graduated from an ARC‑PA accredited program.
NCCPA certified at hire and maintained.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Current DEA number and NPI.
Minimum five years of cardiothoracic/surgical PA experience with independent endoscopic vein harvesting.
Practice agreements completed and on file; ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional privileges.
Strong communication, customer‑service, and teamwork skills.
Preferred
Experience with EPIC Electronic Medical Record.
Willingness to contribute to quality‑improvement projects, research, education, and training.
Previous exposure to ECMO management and advanced cardiac procedures.
Compensation & Benefits Sign‑On Bonus:
$50,000.00 for external candidates hired into the Sr. PA classification by December 31, 2025 (first $25,000 on initial paycheck; second payment after one year).
Relocation Reimbursement:
Up to $10,000.00 for external candidates relocating to California who meet criteria.
Base hourly rate ranges: $89.74 to $117.34. Additional benefits include medical insurance, paid sick and vacation leave, retirement savings plans, and various discounts and perks.
