WHAT YOULL DO The Deputy Director of Major Gifts is critical to the overall organizational success. The Deputy Director is responsible for conceiving of and implementing the first formalized major gifts program, instituting industry best practices and consistency across all major gifts frontline fundraisers. This position will also serve as a significant contributor to prospecting efforts to deepen and expand the donor file for long-term sustainability of the organization, specifically focusing on mid-level and major donors. The Deputy Director supervises the Senior Philanthropy Associate.
RESPONSIBILITIES Major Gifts Program Development
Develop and execute a comprehensive, strategic, donor-centered major gifts program that includes specific fundraising goals and targets, with a focus on the acquisition of leadership gifts ($10,000+ annually) from high level prospects and donors.
Manage the Sr. Philanthropy Associate in developing a robust mid-level giving program to serve as a key pipeline for major gift prospects.
Build internal capacity and systems to support the organizations first formal major gifts program, including robust prospecting processes and resources, consistent cultivation and solicitation strategies and implementation of best in class stewardship and donor recognition.
Understand EnviroVoters programs, priority initiatives, goals and financial needs to develop compelling cases for support that inspire leadership giving across diverse communities, with a focus on attracting new prospective donors to the work across all entities (c3, c4, PAC); facilitate the use of these cases for support across all major gifts fundraisers in the department.
Implement moves management for the major gifts program that supports effective and timely progression of major gifts prospects from identification to solicitation to stewardship.
Support the development of efforts of other key primary relationship managers assigned to donors, including the CEO, Executive Director, Chief Development Officer, other leadership staff and board members, including conducting prospect research and preparing briefing materials in advance of donor meetings.
Support effective prospecting to identify and research current donors and new prospects with capacity and inclination to make annual gifts of $10,000 or more.
Work closely with the Senior Events Manager to plan and execute regular donor cultivation and stewardship events, house parties and political briefings, working closely with program staff, board members and organizational leadership.
Prepare regular fundraising and department activity reports for senior leadership and the board.
Assist in the development and launch of a planned giving program.
Portfolio Management
Develop and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 current donors and prospects, giving $10,000 or more annually, including individuals, family foundations, c-suite executives and institutional intermediaries.
Meet with donors across California via phone and in-person visits, holding at least 75 donor engagement visits annually.
Work closely with other Philanthropy team members, program staff and organizational leadership to craft inspiring, customized gift opportunities for major gift prospects to inspire giving at the five-six figure level.
Develop customized impact reports for donors that deepen relationships with the organization, and inspire continued, increased and sustained giving.
Ensure donor records are current with necessary information, including effective use of the CRM as moves management tool.

MUST HAVES To be successful in this job, you must possess the following qualities and experience:
Minimum of 4 years experience in non-profit or political fundraising, with emphasis as a frontline fundraiser.
Experience with c4, PAC and political fundraising a significant plus.
Knowledge of and experience politics, public or environmental policy or government relations strongly preferred.
Demonstrated track record of successful solicitation of new and upgraded giving at the major gift level (five figures or more).
At least two years of experience managing development programs, including experience with major gifts fundraising, planned giving and events management.
Strength in relationship management and an understanding of the unique engagement required for major gifts donors.
Comfortable working independently and as a collaborative member of a tight-knit team.
Superb leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written, communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to present complex themes and activities in a digestible and compelling way, whether in conversation or in print.
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, high-volume workload, adapt to changing organizational priorities and manage complex tasks in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining attention to detail.
Experience with CRM (Raisers Edge a plus) and donor management best practices.
Ability to represent EnviroVoters in a variety of settings.
