Essential Functions
Supervises and evaluates assigned staff; assists in developing and overseeing employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; assists with or completes performance appraisals; directs work; and trains staff in operations, policies and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes and assigns work; assists Building Official in prioritizing and scheduling work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have necessary resources; monitors status of work and inspects completed work; consults with staff to assist with complex problems and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management.
Monitors, prioritizes, participates in, and inspects work activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, codes, standards, regulations, operating instructions and safety standards; ensures operational efficiency and a safe work environment.
Oversees the inspection of commercial and residential structures to determine compliance with erosion, building, structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other applicable codes; reviews applicable plans, completes inspection reports, and records data for violations as required; directs and prepares necessary technical reports and studies; performs site visits and construction meetings with contractors and builders regarding building code compliance.
Issues warning notices, stop work orders, and court summons; issues warning notices and court summons for uncorrected violations.
Prepares a variety of reports and correspondence on building code inspection compliance matters.
Acts as Building Official in his/her absence, attends various meetings, serves on committees, and makes presentations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related skilled trades area required, five years of progressively responsible experience enforcing building codes and ordinances, including lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification.
Specific License or Certification Required
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Must possess and maintain a current International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Plan Review Certification or Commercial Building Inspector Certification.
Must possess and maintain, or obtain within 12 months of employment, ICC Building Official Certification or Building Officials of Georgia certification.
