Assistant Financial Accountant

Onboard a Cruise Ship

Essential Functions

Manage the Onboard Credit Desk during service hours and at embarkation, as required. May also be assigned to service the crew window and handle crew queries and payments, etc.

Directly or indirectly manage issues regarding guest disputes, queries and statement copies.

Will be assigned a cash float for the purposes of making change and taking payments, etc. Responsible for daily balancing of cash float.

Register credit/debit cards and handle changes in methods of payment.

Accept, verify and record cash payments.

Monitor accounts with cash payments and declined credit/debit card authorizations, close accounts with no method of payment.

Daily credit/debit card processing, including obtaining manual authorizations where necessary.

Perform batch postings to onboard accounts (i.e. Service Charges, miscellaneous revenue postings) as directed.

Perform nightly close day procedures in all systems after balancing on a daily basis.

Report generation, back up and reset of the POS on a nightly basis.

Perform verification of system account checks and transfer of balances as per company policies.

Prepare system account checks for ship’s management approval on a daily basis. Ensure appropriate signature/approval received for all checks to be included in the voyage documentation.

Audit all promotional charges, ensuring compliance to company policy.

Balance all revenue areas on a daily/nightly basis, plus perform additional spot checks and in-depth audits as directed.

Manning of Foreign Exchange service and operation of Foreign Exchange system on relevant vessels, including daily balancing of issued Foreign Exchange float.

Supports the processing of all guest account transactions, for a large passenger vessel that can include from 2,000 to 5,000 guests.

Must be able to work effectively as a member of the onboard financial accounting department, as well as, independently.

Reports to the Financial Accountant as supervisor and the Chief Financial Accountant as Department Head.

Performs all required duties in a timely fashion with high level of accuracy.

Implement and adhere to company policies and procedures (both onboard and Financial) and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all.

Provides helpful assistance to the guests and crew within the bounds of the position and is personally accommodating.

Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.

Qualifications

Minimum of six months (6) months of cash handling required. Prior Hotel/Front Office experience or Accounting/audit experience is preferred.

Basic to Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required. Experience with Fidelio Cruise is preferred.

Education

Highschool diploma or foreign equivalent is required.

Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
