Job Description The Global Engineering, Maintenance, & Sustainability (GEMS) Firm Engineering Team owns mechanical firm design and provides electrical, controls, and software firm design and integration support across Amazon’s First- and Middle-Mile sites. We work closely with upstream teams and directly serve key customers including North America Ops Engineering, Operations, RME, and WHS.

This role requires up to 25% travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Responsibilities

Design and develop engineering solutions for complex material handling and storage challenges.

Lead and coordinate concept and firm design development for optimal solutions across North America and Emerging Countries.

Work with PMO, Simulation, ACES, Operations, Finance, and Ops Eng teams to identify network problem statements and execute pilot projects.

Lead the firm engineering process for various design reviews and ensure solutions meet Amazon standards.

Write or review design/functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures for MHE equipment.

Drive projects to closure, ensuring systems deployed comply with regulatory requirements.

Simultaneously manage multiple projects, influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external partners, contractors, and vendors.

Obtain initial ROM pricing, develop CAR forms, and ensure frugality is observed.

Serve as primary POC for all design, schedule, cost, and safety questions throughout the project lifecycle.

Must‑Haves

Effective communication skills, building consensus and harmonizing divergent views.

Ability to understand and validate design changes.

Understanding of the full system development life cycle, including test plan execution.

Design‑in‑Safety experience.

Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high‑speed manufacturing.

Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

Experience in Design/Innovation, R&D, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related work.

Experience managing engineering design projects.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (any discipline), Operations, or related field and at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience.

Experience with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high‑speed manufacturing.

Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.

Experience in Capital project management.

Experience with system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.

Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Engineering (any discipline) + 3 years relevant experience.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
