Helbling USA
Helbling USA is an engineering consulting firm with expertise in medical devices, laboratory instruments, robotics, and mechatronics – and most importantly, innovation. We are in San Diego, CA and Cambridge, MA and are looking for Senior Project Engineers to join our talented team. As a Project Engineer, you will execute projects that turn ideas into technically substantiated products (and everything in between). As a Senior Project Engineer, you will plan and lead complex, multifaceted projects in addition to your technical contributions. The ideal candidates are well‑rounded team players who thrive in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment – we regularly shift gears between ideation, theoretical analysis, detailed design (e.g., CAD), prototyping/building, testing, debugging, and, crucially, communicating that work with our clients. Ideal candidates also share our passion for creativity and technology and commitment to high‑quality work.
Role Responsibilities
Actively contribute to developing innovative medical devices, lab systems, robotics and/or automation solutions, with a focus on mechanical, electronics, software, and/or systems design
Own development and refinement of systems, modules, interfaces, mechanisms, components in CAD etc. (e.g., detailed design of plastic/metal parts, selection of motors, sensors, etc.)
Lead projects, help write proposals, mentor and support Project Engineer team members, and contribute to multiple active projects (e.g., by participating in brainstorms and design reviews, etc.)
Apply fundamental engineering/physics calculations, tolerance analysis, GD&T, DFMEA, finite element analysis, etc. to support concept evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations
Source, build, and test prototypes, generating key documentation as needed (2D drawings, test protocols, test reports)
Manage preparation and presentation of project reports, reviews, and weekly client updates
Required Qualifications
Minimum a BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or Mechatronics Engineering and minimum of 3+ years of related engineering full‑time professional experience or equivalent (advanced technical degrees preferred)
Eligible to work in the US without sponsorship (unfortunately we cannot sponsor H1B visa)
Additional Qualifications
Solid understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering mechanisms and electromechanical principles
Expertise in multiple of the following a strong plus: physical system modelling, electromechanics (sensors and actuators), programming (MATLAB, microcontrollers), GD&T
