Minimum qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

10 years of experience working on technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, law, or relevant industry associations.

10 years of experience in policy analysis and campaigns, working on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.

7 years of experience working on tech or related policy, including experience with AI policy.

Preferred qualifications

Experience at a technology company, state or federal-level government agency or legislature, NGO or a similar organization dealing with technology policy issues including AI.

Experience with government relations.

Ability to operate separately and in a team, exercising good judgment in a changing environment, and integrate public policy with business strategy.

Familiarity with the latest technical and business research in AI.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

About The Job As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you will be working across regions, product areas, and functions. You will combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. You’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

The AI and Emerging Technology Policy team, within the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Centers of Excellence, develops Google's perspectives on public policy around AI and other emerging technologies and serves as the GAPP issue experts on emerging tech policy. We develop views on the appropriate regulation of AI and other emerging technologies so as to enable their responsible deployment, and we engage with policymakers and experts around those issues. We also develop views on other public policies to support ongoing AI and emerging technology innovation such as around research and development policy. And we support efforts to partner with governments around innovation policy and to highlight how AI can be harnessed to address major societal challenges.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $182,000-$249,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Define and shape Google’s AI public policy agenda. Be responsible for ensuring our public policy positions on AI safety and risk mitigation keep pace with developments across AI technologies and deployments.

Assess and develop positions on AI regulatory files and other AI policy at the federal level in the U.S. Support the Federal Affairs team’s engagements with Congress, the Executive Office of the President, and Executive agencies.

Work with internal teams to get cross-functional input and support for our public policy positions, and to advise on public policy developments. Act as the team's key point of contact for Trust and Safety.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Google DeepMind, to ensure we engage external policy audiences with a "One Google" approach.
