This is a hybrid role. The selected candidate will work in the Arlington, VA office weekly (Tuesdays-Thursdays). Remote work may be considered as needed. Summary
The Program Manager, Content Editing is responsible for maintaining the quality, clarity, and consistency of messaging across NACD’s digital and print research, reports, surveys, marketing, and other written communications. The skilled copy and developmental editor ensures all content adheres to NACD style, brand standards, and digital best practices, collaborating with writers to refine structure, tone, and readability. Additionally, this role manages editorial operations, including coordinating contractors, addressing intellectual property requests, and maintaining the publication calendar and editorial resources. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Oversee detailed copy editing and review of NACD’s research, reports, surveys, marketing, and other communications to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with NACD’s standards and copyright requirements. Establish and maintain editorial standards, guidelines, and department‑specific style guides to promote consistency across all NACD content. Review and correct copy in design layouts, web pages, and other formatted materials, ensuring quality from draft through publication. Provide feedback and guidance to internal and external writers to strengthen content structure, tone, and impact and to ensure adherence to NACD style, brand, and digital optimization best practices (GEO, AEO, AIO, and SEO). Recommend and implement standards and techniques to help NACD keep pace with evolving digital best practices. Collaborate with writers and the digital marketing team to optimize user experience, accessibility, and content performance on the NACD website. Contribute to the use of data and analytics to inform editorial decisions and improve digital content performance. Guide and train staff on editorial standards and digital best practices. Communicate regular updates to the content team and stakeholders regarding the publication calendar and editorial workflow. Provide oversight and direction to freelance copy editors contracting with NACD. Respond to external requests to share NACD intellectual property in collaboration with the legal team and content teams. Monitor intellectual property‑related issues and offer recommendations. Create and maintain processes for organizing, archiving, and accessing archived content. Maintain key editorial resources and documentation to ensure teams have access to current, reliable information. Perform other duties as assigned. Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, journalism, communications, marketing, business, or a related field and at least five years of professional experience editing content across digital and print formats is required. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing platforms (Optimizely preferred), exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high editorial and brand standards are essential. Demonstrated track record of managing multiple work streams under tight deadlines is required. Experience training writers and knowledge of accessibility and AEO, GEO, AIO, and SEO best practices are a plus. Compensation is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
