Job Title Associate Director of Composition / Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence (non‑tenure‑track) – Department of English (R0146549)

Role Overview The position begins July 1, 2026. It is a 12‑month, non‑tenure‑track appointment with a promotional ladder through the Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence component.

Responsibilities

Teach 3–6 credits per regular semester in online first‑year composition courses and the pedagogy practicum for new graduate teaching assistants.

Coordinate online composition courses: develop complete model courses, create instructional resources, liaise with Online Ed and other stakeholders, and coordinate assessment of online classes.

Mentor program instructors and facilitate regular professional development opportunities.

Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop, assess, and revise the Composition Program curriculum and policies.

Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in faculty governance.

Although many duties are performed virtually, a regular campus presence is required to facilitate effective mentoring, collaboration, and program administration.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical or Professional Communication, or a related field from an accredited institution.

At least 4 years of teaching writing in higher education, including at least 2 years (four semesters) of online writing instruction.

Basic digital media production skills and proficiency in creating accessible materials.

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience administering writing programs and mentoring instructors.

Knowledge of anti‑racist, equitable, and inclusive pedagogical and assessment practices.

Understanding of current issues and controversies related to generative AI and experience integrating AI policies into curriculum.

Understanding of best assessment practices for online courses.
