The Office of the Insurance Commissioner promotes a competitive, solvent insurance market and protects consumers by administering West Virginia’s insurance laws. Responsibilities

Serve as the General Counsel, providing legal advice to the Executive Team and agency staff on statutes, rules, and regulations. Conduct advanced legal research, prepare memoranda and briefs on complex insurance issues, and draft bills, rules, and other documents. Analyze and summarize interstate insurance laws pending in West Virginia. Represent the agency before the Legislature, testify before committees on bills and study topics, and collaborate with committee counsel. Correspond with legislators and the public as needed on inquiries. Manage all outside litigation and personnel matters before administrative bodies. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Admission to practice law in West Virginia. Nine years of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time, paid experience practicing law, including trial experience in administrative or judicial proceedings. One year of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time, experience as an attorney with the agency shall be considered the equivalent of two years of other qualifying experience. Benefits
