About the Company Growing medical components manufacturing company has an exciting opportunity available for a Tooling Manager.

About the Role The Tooling Manager is responsible for managing the Design, Fabrication, Qualification, Maintenance, and Optimization of tools and molds used in manufacturing processes. This role directly manages the tool makers and machinists in the Tool and Mold department, assuring adequate skills, training, and technical capabilities are applied, and resources managed appropriately to meet timelines, quality metrics, and cost targets.

Responsibilities

Oversee the entire lifecycle of tools and molds, from design and development, to qualification, production and maintenance.

Advise on and help create an organized structure to catalog and keep track of all mold tools.

Apply 5S methodology to Tool & Mold area.

Assures tools and equipment in the mold shop are maintained and calibrated through active preventative maintenance and stocking.

Assures a safe work environment. Manages team and department safety.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their tooling and mold needs (i.e., R&D, NPI and Operations teams).

Actively maintain a shared electronic queue of new tool, mold and fixture requests, as well as tool fabrication, improvement and maintenance projects.

Seek management support on prioritization.

Lead meetings to status the project queue and publish meeting notes and actions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent four-year tool making Apprenticeship.

Required Skills

Minimum 5 years Engineering experience.

Minimum 8 years tooling experience with injection mold tooling design, fabrication, operation, and troubleshooting.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Minimum 3 years supervisory or management experience, preferably in an ISO regulated manufacturing environment.

GMP experience highly preferred.

Experience in plastic injection molding, thermoplastics, engineered resins.

In-depth knowledge of materials, machining processes, and manufacturing principles.

Demonstrated proficiency in CAD/CAM software and CNC programming.

Candidates capable of performing mold flow analysis highly preferred.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Technical knowledge and skills in tool repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting for plastic tools, stamping tools, and various external and internal tools.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work with international suppliers and ability to adjust to time zone differences.

Requires valid CA Driver License and proof of automobile insurance.

Preferred Skills

GMP experience highly preferred.

Experience in plastic injection molding, thermoplastics, engineered resins.

Candidates capable of performing mold flow analysis highly preferred.
