Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Professional Land Surveyor to join a dynamic engineering consulting firm. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for executing complex surveying projects from conception to completion, drafting survey documents, managing project timelines and budgets, and serving as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and field personnel. This position offers the opportunity to mentor junior staff, contribute to departmental standards, and play a lead role in business development and project proposals. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, excels at managing a heavy workload, and is committed to delivering the highest standard of customer service and technical excellence. You will report directly to the Director of Land Surveying.

Qualifications

Education, Experience & Licensure:

A current Washington State Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is required; multi‑state licensure is a plus.

Minimum of 8 years of combined field and office surveying experience, specifically in land development and construction projects.

Valid Washington State driver’s license with a safe driving record and insurable status.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

Comprehensive knowledge of Washington State survey standards, Revised Codes, Administrative Codes, and the federal Public Lands Survey System.

Thorough understanding of boundary principles, applicable laws, and statutes.

Proficiency with Civil3D and Land Development Desktop; knowledge of Inroads/MicroStation is a plus.

Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.).

Experience with Leica Robotic Total Stations and GPS equipment.

Proven experience in all types of land surveying, including:

Boundary, Topographic, ALTA, and Construction Staking

Control Networks (GPS‑RTK and Static)

Route/Corridor and Residential/Subdivision surveys

Experience computing and staking for complex construction projects such as bridges, highways, large utilities, and public works.

Key Responsibilities & Attributes:

Reduce field data and draft line work in AutoCAD.

Research legal and survey records (deeds, easements, etc.) to resolve property boundaries.

Prepare a wide range of survey documents, including Record of Surveys, Plats, Boundary Line Adjustments, and easement exhibits.

Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with the Director.

Initiate new business development opportunities and build strong, lasting client relationships.

Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong focus on client service.

Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and highly organized with excellent problem‑solving abilities.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to train and mentor junior personnel.

Ability to travel to project sites for meetings, quality assurance, and field sign‑off as needed.

Salary & Benefits Salary: $90,000 - $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience and licensure.
